Total Exterior Makeover Adds Curb Appeal and Market Value
The owners of this 1960’s split entry rambler loved their home, but now it was showing its age. The windows were drafty, the original siding was deteriorating, and the entry could use an update. Bottom line: Their home needed a total makeover.
They hired Rick Jacobson to offer his design, materials, and construction advice to remodel their home’s exterior.
Rick recommended that they replace the original Masonite siding with LP Smartside. LP siding offers the look of wood without the maintenance. It’s treated with a process helps keep out moisture for long-term durability and strength against harsh weather. It’s also less costly than cement board and easier to work with. It comes prefinished in popular colors with calking of the same color, which means little, or no painting is required.
Rick also replaced the existing windows with new energy-efficient windows that not only enhanced the home’s beauty but also will keep the cold out on winter days and nights.
The garage door was replaced, and a custom cedar overhang was constructed over the garage entrance. As a complement, a matching custom cedar overhang was constructed over the main entrance and steps, which tied the two elements together for a great look and enhanced “curb appeal.”
The result is amazing. The owners say that their neighbors have gone out of their way to complement them on the transformation. A realtor even stopped by to see if they were interested in selling. Seems like the ultimate complement and affirmation to the quality and appreciated value of the project.
