A Kitchen Remodel that Sings the Blues? The Results are Amazing!

This is a story about a kitchen that was showing its age, with white countertops and dark oak cabinets on a dark oak floor. It all worked once, but now the kitchen felt dark, cramped and dysfunctional. The owners were looking for a total kitchen transformation.

After a disastrous beginning with a previous contractor who took their money and vanished into thin air, the owners were left with a completely gutted kitchen that consisted only of four walls. They hired Rick Jacobson to rescue them and make their project a reality.

The owners worked with Kathleen Interiors to design a new kitchen. It began with the idea of using Cobalt Blue as a primary accent color. Another goal was to make the kitchen brighter, improve the traffic flow, and update the cabinetry. There was also a refrigerator to move and exhaust vents to reroute.

Rick listened to the owners and delivered the kitchen that they imagined. He recommended widening the doorway to the dining room to make traffic flow easier, and also recommended adding arches to all the doorways to match the home’s existing décor.

He carefully thought about the ideal location for the center island, including how each element would function with a busy family in the kitchen. The cabinets feature flat panel doors, soft close wooden drawers, and a spice cabinet with two slide-out racks. The new, longer center island features a drawer microwave that opens and closes automatically with the push of a button. The kitchen island also features two large recycling bins and seating for four. The black granite countertops offer an especially appealing view, creating lots of interesting reflections throughout the kitchen.

An under mounted single stainless steel sink with Black Granite countertops is complemented with a gooseneck faucet. The stainless steel gas range is thin enough to allow for a wide drawer below for utensils, and the stainless steel exhaust hood is vented through the ceiling to the outside, allowing additional storage space in the top cabinets. Double ovens with white doors are the perfect match to the cabinets, with a location that makes baking and roasting easier with two large upper cabinets with dividers for storage of baking sheets and trays.

Rick’s kitchen remodeling projects always include well a thought out lighting plan. This kitchen features recessed ceiling lights, three cobalt blue pendant lights, and under-cabinet lights. All lights are on dimmers that together create the perfect ambiance, day or night.

The result: A functional, open, and bright kitchen, starring the dulcet tones of Cobalt Blue accents.
